#NYFW & REFINERY29

Hi peeps! Hope you’re having a relaxing, restful Sunday.

I’ve been resting and catching up on all my shows all day and I just finished some work in preparation for this upcoming workweek. I’m very late with my #NYFW recaps but I’m including the photos from [my] Day 2 of Fashion Week below. Although the day was a bit of a bust, I felt cute! lol We decided to sleep in and rest and skipped the first show of the day. Then, on the way to the second show, we had the slowest Uber driver in all the land and he made us miss the show by like 4 minutes — literally, it started at 4:00 and we got to the door at 4:04 and the doors were locked. :-/ I’m still upset about it ha. Then, we went to shoot some pics and headed to an overpriced dinner that didn’t completely satisfy us. Thennnn, we finished the night at the #HairCouture show that was just ok. WOMP. But, oh well…you win some, you lose some.

On to the lewk…

I repurposed the Lulu’s bridesmaid dress from my friend’s 2018 wedding and threw on a cream Forever 21 sweater and rose gold moto jacket with it. The look was topped off by a pearl headband from ASOS (similar here) and my trusty Missguided snakeskin boots. Do we like? I hope so. ;)

In other #NYFW news, I WAS FEATURED ON ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE SITES: Refinery29!!!!!!!!!! Can we just discuss how MAJOR that is?!! I honestly read Refinery every few days to check my favorite series: Money Diaries which is this really cool article series that focuses on women’s spending habits. Women of all ages (mostly young and old millennials) create anonymous weeklong diaries of the things they’ve spent money on that week and it.is.fascinating.as.hell. People spend money on the most bizarre things sometimes! But mostly, I think it’s a testament to the fact that we are all relatively similar beings — we love beauty products and good food…we want to find ways to balance out our lives with healthy relationships/friendships, steady careers and varying levels of wellness…and most importantly, we’re normally too afraid to talk about money. Which was the catalyst for the series in the first place. The idea is that we learn about other people’s finances so that we feel more comfortable speaking about our own. And the Comments section is EVERYTHING. People actually post helpful hints about things like investing or skincare or whatever — based on the content of the diary. And the OP (Original Poster — author of the diary) will often chime in with more clarification for the readers or with an update on their lives if they left us with a cliffhanger (ex. did she and her boyfriend actually break up or was it just a big fight? Did she get the job she was interviewing for that week? Did the book she was reading disappoint her in the end?). It’s honestly such a cool, simple concept and I LOVE it.

So, anyway, the bottom line is that I love Refinery29 for various reasons — including Money Diaries but also because of their #streetstyle series and #NYFWrecaps. During the week, my friend and I went over to Spring Studios, where most of the big-name designers’ shows are held and a few photogs snapped our pics. Then, as we were leaving, a really nice black woman walked up and said she’d like to take our pic as we walked toward her. She took a couple shots and then switched IG info with my friend so that we could retrieve the pics later in the week. She offhandedly mentioned that she was shooting for Refinery and I kid you not, my head almost exploded LMAO. Later, we found out that Refinery actually picked up our pic for a piece on leather leggings and they provided links to lookalike products if someone wanted to recreated my outfit. A DREAM! I’m still so happy about it as you can tell. I honestly have been praying nonstop that 2020 brings major miracles and blessings my way and I feel like I’m off to a good start. 2019 was rough and I’m hoping that this year will be one to remember.

Love you for reading. Check back for the remainder of my #NYFW events/looks. xoxox - Ashley
